Exploring the Lands Between is a great adventure. You will often face a random boss, difficult mobs, and many more. One of the outstanding features of Elden Ring is that the game allows us to play it with a friend or a companion. This enables us to complete the game faster and make our lives easier.
Let's answer this right away:
Can you play Elden Ring offline?
Yes, absolutely!
Perks of playing Elden Ring offline:
Playing in offline mode also has its perks and many players prefer this type of gameplay as well. Here are some:
- Enjoy the story modefully - you can solely focus on solo exploration and enjoy the story. There is a sense of fulfillment in completing the boss fight in the game without any help or assistance from others. I personally prefer playing on solo mode, without summons and using dual wielded weapons. Sure, there is an easier approach, but I wanted to test my skills against these insanely hard to beat bosses - and gain satisfaction and bragging rights in beating them.
- You can focus on your own pacing - playing on offline / solo mode allows you to roam the lands between freely. You can go anywhere, play anywhere anytime, and fully enjoy Elden Ring without any disturbances and no other player rushing you to go to other places.
- Play without any disturbance from NPC invasions. The hostile invaders appear anywhere and randomly, so this is a hassle when playing online because you will be disturbed by them quite frequently.

Playing with friends is a nice thing, but there are times that you prefer to be alone and enjoy the blissful moment of your free time.
How about playing Elden Ring via online? Let's also cover this in this article and let us begin why you should consider playing via online.
Are you ready? Here we go!
Perks of playing Elden Ring online:
- Multiplayer Cooperative Play. You can play with your friends and assemble a team of three and explore the Lands Between.
- Exchange of items. You can exchange items with each other, gaining you access to stronger weapons and equipment, which is very useful in your journey to the game.
- PVP (Player versus player). You can invade other players' worlds and engage in a battle with them. Please take note that NPC invasions can happen anytime, and you cannot disable this feature.
- Engage with fellow online players. Meet other explorers and fight alongside them and make friends where you can play other games too.
Requirements to play Elden Ring online:
- The Elden Ring base game. The game version must be updated to the latest patch.
- PlayStation Plus subscription (if your console is PlayStation). If you are playing on PC, you can automatically access the online features.
- A stable internet connection.
Requirements for cooperative play in Elden Ring:
There are few requirements in order to summon other players for cooperative play.
- Make sure your network settings are enabled: On the main menu, go to Network, then set the Send Summon Sign setting to 'Enabled.'
- Set a session password. On the main menu, go to multiplayer, then set a multiplayer password.
Note: Make sure that your friend knows this password so that the system will prioritize him/her to join; otherwise, a random player might enter. - Both your characters must be in the same location in order for the summon to become successful.
Required items:
- Furlcalling Finger Remedy. You can purchase this from a merchant, or you can craft this item if you run out of it.
- Tarnished Furled Finger. This is an early game item. The one that will be summoned should have this item.

Steps in setting up the cooperative play in Elden Ring:
- The one being summoned needs to use the Tarnished Furled Finger in any place. It will leave a golden message to be seen by the main player.
- The main player should see the golden message on the same spot, and then he needs to use the furlcalling finger remedy to see the sign left by the one being summoned. Once he sees it, he must touch the gold summon sign, and he can then summon the other player.
Once successful, the summoned player should be glowing in gold color. The character glowing in red is a hostile one and will attack you. This is one of the multiplayer modes in this game, which is PVP.
Does these multiplayer features on the DLC: Shadow of the ErdTree?
Yes! The same mechanics work on Elden Ring DLC: Shadow of the Erdtree. I believe in the upcoming game, Elden Ring Nightreign, it will be the same mechanics, but if it's not, we will update it immediately.
Conclusion:
Playing Elden Ring in online or offline mode has its benefits. So which mode do you prefer in Elden Ring? Do you want to complete it with friends? Or do you want to play and beat it solo? Let us know by leaving a comment in this article!
